  4. 3.5 of Almanac for Windows.  Topics discussed in

  15. REGISTRATION
  16. ------------
  17. Almanac is not free software.  It is released as
  18. shareware, which provides the opportunity for the
  19. program to be evaluated before it is purchased.
  20.  
  21. We hope that after you try Almanac you will like
  22. it so much that you will want to register.  By
  23. doing so you are voting with your pocketbook for
  24. us to continue developing high-quality, Windows
  25. shareware.
  26.  
  27. Complete information on how to register Almanac
  28. is included in the REGISTER.TXT file.
  29.  
  30. Customers who have registered a previous version
  31. of Almanac should refer to the UPGRADE.TXT file
  32. for upgrading information.

  35. COMPATIBILITY
  36. -------------
  37. Almanac 3.5 requires version 3.1 of Windows or
  38. higher.
  39.  
  40. If you are running Windows NT, a 32 bit version
  41. of Almanac is available from Impact Software,
  42. specifically created for running under Windows NT.
  43.  
  44. If you are running a version of Almanac earlier than
  45. 3.5, please be advised that the format of many of
  46. Almanac's data files have changed.  Almanac can
  47. read data files created by Almanac version 3.0 or
  48. later.  After using your files with Almanac version
  49. 3.5, they will no longer be compatible with earlier
  50. versions of Almanac.

  53. UPDATING A PREVIOUS ALMANAC INSTALLATION
  54. ----------------------------------------
  55. Almanac's SETUP utility has been enhanced to update
  56. a previous installation automatically.  Version 3.5
  57. of Almanac may be installed over version 3.0 or 3.1.
  58. SETUP will update the program and help files, and will
  59. not overwrite any existing data files on your hard
  60. disk.
  61.  
  62. If you specifically want SETUP to replace any
  63. release files such as the sample overlay files,
  64. delete them from your installation before running
  65. SETUP.
  66.  
  67.  
  68. INSTALLING ALMANAC 3.5
  69. ----------------------
  70. The Almanac package includes a graphical Windows
  71. installation program using the standard name of SETUP.EXE.
  72. You should place all of the files included in the release
  73. package on a floppy disk or in a temporary directory of
  74. your hard drive.
  75.  
  76. SETUP requires about 575K bytes to complete the
  77. installation of Almanac.
  78.  
  79. Run SETUP by selecting the 'Run...' command from the
  80. File menu of Program Manager or File Manager.  Enter
  81. "d:\SETUP" as the Command Line, where "d" is the
  82. drive/directory that you are installing Almanac FROM
  83. (for example, A:\SETUP).  Select "OK".
  84.  
  85. 1. The first action performed by SETUP is to display the
  86.    date your computer is set to.  Almanac's calendar
  87.    will not operate correctly if your computer is not set
  88.    to the correct date.
  89.  
  90. 2. SETUP will then display an Installation Control window.
  91.    Three pushbuttons allow you to change the FROM and TO
  92.    drives and paths for your install.  SETUP initially
  93.    sets these values for you so that you can just click
  94.    the Install button if you do not need to make changes.
  95.  
  96.    If you are using Program Manager as your Windows shell,
  97.    SETUP will allow a Program Group to be selected
  98.    to receive the startup icon for Almanac.
  99.  
  100. SETUP will inform you when installation is complete.
  101.  
  102. If your Windows installation is configured for French,
  103. German, or Spanish language, or if you would like to
  104. customize Almanac for another foreign language, please
  105. read the following section.

  108. FOREIGN LANGUAGE OPTION
  109. -----------------------
  110. Although it would be difficult for us to create and
  111. distribute our shareware in multiple languages, it is
  112. important to try to meet the needs of the many
  113. customers who would enjoy such a capability.  Almanac
  114. 3.5 has been designed to provide the option of
  115. customizing the text that appears on the menu as well
  116. as the text of calendar displays and prints.
  117.  
  118. Almanac 3.5 will look for the file ALMSTR.TXT in the
  119. directory that it is executed from.  This file contains
  120. the foreign language equivalents for specific text that
  121. is used on Almanac's menus and displays.
  122.  
  123. If your Windows installation is configured for either
  124. the French, German, or Spanish language, Almanac's
  125. SETUP utility will ask you if you would like it to
  126. install the appropriate language information for
  127. you.
  128.  
  129. If you are running any other language than these or
  130. English, SETUP will direct you here for more
  131. information.
  132.  
  133. You can build your own ALMSTR.TXT file by first
  134. copying the ALMENG.TXT file from your release disk
  135. into your Almanac directory.  (SETUP does not
  136. install this file - you should only copy it from
  137. the release package onto your hard disk if you
  138. intend to customize Almanac for a language other
  139. than English.)  This file is a sample language
  140. template that contains the English text used in
  141. Almanac's menus and displays.  You can edit this
  142. file with Windows NOTEPAD or other ASCII text
  143. editor to create your own ALMSTR.TXT file.
  144. Simply replacie the English text with the
  145. appropriate text of the language you would like.
  146.  
  147. It is important that you do not add or delete
  148. any lines from this file.  Each line of the
  149. file contains text that Almanac will substitute
  150. for a specific area in the program.
  151.  
  152. Menu items contain an ampersand (&) character
  153. in front of the letter of the text that will
  154. be underlined and used for Alt-key selection.
  155. Hot keys, such as Ctrl-P for File.Print
  156. cannot be changed from their English derived
  157. defaults.
  158.  
  159. Almanac will automatically use the new text in
  160. ALMSTR.TXT the next time it is executed.  Be
  161. careful to leave the first line of ALMSTR.TXT
  162. unchanged.  This contains the major and minor
  163. version of Almanac so that later versions can
  164. avoid using the file if changes to the contents
  165. of the file must be made.

  168. like to send us, as well as any corrections that
  169. you think we should make to the files we are
  170. distributing!

  182.  SOFTWARE LICENSE
  183.  
  184.  Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use Almanac
  185.  on a 30-day trial basis for the purpose of determining
  186.  whether Almanac is suitable for their needs.  The use
  187.  of Almanac, except for the initial 30-day trial,
  188.  requires registration.  The use of unlicensed copies of Almanac,
  189.  outside of the initial 30-day trial, by any person,
  190.  business, corporation, government agency or any other entity is
  191.  strictly prohibited.

  193.  A single user license permits a user to use Almanac
  194.  only on a single computer.  Licensed users may use the
  195.  program on different computers, but may not use the program
  196.  on more than one computer at the same time.
  197.  
  198.  No one may modify or patch the Almanac executable files
  199.  in any way, including but not limited to decompiling,
  200.  disassembling, or otherwise reverse engineering the program.

  202.  A limited license is granted to copy and distribute Almanac
  203.  only for the trial use of others, subject to the above
  204.  limitations, and also the following:
  205.  
  206.   1)    Almanac and all of its release files must be
  207.         distributed in unmodified form, complete with the
  208.         file containing this license information.

  210.   2)    Almanac may not be distributed in conjunction with
  211.         any other product without a specific license to do so
  212.         from Impact Software.

  214.   3)    No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested or
  215.         accepted, except as authorized below:

  217.         A) Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
  218.            may make Almanac available for downloading only as
  219.            long as the above conditions are met.  An overall or
  220.            time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board
  221.            system is permitted as long as there is not a specific
  222.            charge for the download of Almanac.

  224.         B) Vendors of user-supported or shareware software approved by
  225.            the ASP may distribute Almanac, subject to the
  226.            above conditions, without specific permission.  Non-
  227.            approved vendors may distribute Almanac only after
  228.            obtaining written permission from Impact Software.
  229.            Such permission is usually granted.  Please write for
  230.            details (enclose your catalog).

  232.         C) Non-profit user groups may distribute copies of the
  233.            Almanac diskette to their members, subject to
  234.            the above conditions, without specific permission.
  235.            Non-profit groups may collect a disk duplication fee
  236.            not to exceed five dollars.

  238.   LIMITED WARRANTY
  239.  
  240.   Impact Software warrants that all disks provided are
  241.   free from defects in material and workmanship, assuming
  242.   normal use, for a period of 90 days from the date of
  243.   purchase.

  245.   Impact Software warrants that the program will perform
  246.   in substantial compliance with the documentation supplied
  247.   with the software product.  If a significant defect in
  248.   the product is found, the Purchaser may return the
  249.   product for a refund.  In no event will such a refund
  250.   exceed the purchase price of the product.

  252.   EXCEPT AS PROVIDED ABOVE, IMPACT SOFTWARE DISCLAIMS ALL
  253.   WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
  254.   LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND
  255.   FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THE
  256.   PRODUCT.  SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, THE
  257.   PURCHASER ASSUMES THE RISK OF PAYING THE ENTIRE COST OF
  258.   ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR, OR CORRECTION AND ANY
  259.   INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.  IN NO EVENT WILL
  260.   IMPACT SOFTWARE BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER
  261.   (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF
  262.   BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS
  263.   INFORMATION AND THE LIKE) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR THE
  264.   INABILITY TO USE THIS PRODUCT EVEN IF IMPACT SOFTWARE
  265.   HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

  268.   your acceptance of this agreement and subjects you to its
